The Outside Electrician is responsible for: 
  • Install wireways supporting cables in submarines. Install cables and electrical components (nuclear and non-nuclear) ranging from large power distribution switchboards to telephones (also includes control, power, electronics, and weapon systems).
  • Install tag out, and test ship's lighting.  
  • Hook up cables to electrical components in accordance with NAVSEA methods and procedures, such as hardwire and connecterization.

Overview
The Shipyard Test Organization is the premier trade made up of a team of world class testers who have the knowledge and skill to be the last in line delivering the most capable warships to the U.S. Navy. Specific responsibilities include but are not limited to:
  1. Perform electrical testing of all Shipboard, Steam and Electric Plant, Auxiliary and Weapons systems.
  2. Complete and maintain the required training to perform electrical operational testing of all Steam and Electric Plant systems; Hull Mechanical and Auxiliary systems; and Weapons systems which may include going on sea trials.
  3. Complete and maintain the required training to perform watch standing duties to include: operate ship’s electrical systems; roving watches required for ship safety, safety dispatch or to monitor electrical systems required as part of the construction which may include weekend work.
  4. Complete and maintain the required training to perform the duties of a safety technician which requires making systems safe for trade work utilizing Electric Boat’s Lock out/Tag out procedures.
  5. Ability to follow written procedures and comply with requirements.
  6. Exhibit high moral character and integrity required to certify NAVSEA test requirements.
  7. Exhibit the ability to read and understand various system and test diagrams/drawings required for all electrical system testing.

  10. Be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret clearance.

  12. Perform other duties assigned by their supervisor.
  13. Complete and maintain the required training to use radiological dosimetry to work within radiological controlled areas when required.
  14. Complete and maintain the required training to work on energized equipment. Individual must understand and comply with Division Safety Manual and technical manual operating instructions. 
Pay: $28.70 - $41.14/hr
