Description

The Data Center Electrical Design Lead serves as the technical and design authority for electrical systems supporting mission-critical data centers. This role provides leadership across multidisciplinary design teams while maintaining primary accountability for electrical infrastructure design, technical quality, and innovation. The individual will apply extensive experience in data center electrical engineering—including Tier-rated design—to deliver reliable, efficient, and flexible power solutions that accommodate modern AI-driven and high-performance computing loads. Over time, this individual is expected to grow into a trusted client-facing leader and future firm Partner.

Responsibilities:
  • Lead data center electrical design and documentation from concept through construction for systems including medium- and low-voltage power distribution, UPS systems, generators, grounding, lighting, and controls. Provide interdisciplinary coordination to ensure cohesive system integration across mechanical, structural, and architectural disciplines.
  • As a senior technical authority, mentor engineers and designers through example and project involvement rather than direct supervision.
  • Establish technical direction and project expectations for electrical team members. Oversee workload distribution to ensure balanced resource allocation and timely project delivery.
  • Oversee interdisciplinary coordination to ensure reliability, maintainability, and scalability.
  • Perform advanced engineering calculations and code analysis related to power systems and energy efficiency.
  • Guide internal standards, templates, and QA/QC processes for data center design - conduct quality assurance reviews and technical peer checks for complex projects.
  • Receive project assignments from Principals, Senior Associates, or Project Managers and coordinate with other discipline leads to ensure cohesive, integrated design delivery.
  • Support the firm’s growth in the data center market by participating in client meetings, contributing to proposal development, and representing company in industry discussions.
  • Maintain consistent communication with team members and other disciplines. Provide clear direction and technical guidance to ensure project alignment with firm standards.
  • Take full responsibility for the technical quality and completeness of design work.
  • Review design documentation for technical accuracy, constructability, and coordination - ensure adherence to company standards and project schedules. Proactively identify design risks and implements corrective measures to limit firm liability.
  • Maintain the firm’s values of honesty, collaboration, and fairness - encourage cross-discipline teamwork and support staff development through informal mentorship.
  • Exemplify the highest standards of technical accuracy, code compliance, and professional integrity - ensure that all deliverables meet company and industry standards and reflect the firm’s commitment to engineering excellence.
  • Positively influence colleagues through collaboration and mentorship - act as a role model for integrity, accountability, and professionalism.
  • Maintain awareness of evolving technologies influencing data center performance, efficiency, and sustainability.
  • Participate in client presentations, proposal development, and occasional business development efforts.
  • Mentor junior engineers through collaboration, review, and technical example.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration
  • Tier design experience and a demonstrated history of technical excellence across diverse data center types, including enterprise, colocation, and hyperscale environments.
  • Proficiency in Revit is required, with working familiarity in other electrical design tools preferred.
  •  A deep understanding of modern data center technologies, redundancy strategies, and sustainable design practices is essential.
  • The ability to effectively supervise design production, maintain equipment access, and engage in person with project teams and clients are critical to success.
  • Initiative, follow-through, and a strong sense of professional responsibility - exhibits consistent work habits and a proactive approach to solving complex design challenges. Willingness to contribute beyond assigned duties to achieve project and firm objectives.
  • Enthusiasm for data center design and a commitment to technical excellence.
  • The ability to apply knowledge and creativity to evolving design challenges - adapt to emerging technologies and market demands, maintaining the flexibility required for modern data center systems.
  • Sound engineering judgment and the ability to evaluate design alternatives based on technical, financial, and operational considerations.
  • Demonstrate pride in both personal contributions and the overall performance of the design team.
  • Thorough preparation and organization in all project phases, ensuring efficient design processes, consistent documentation, and proactive coordination.
  • Team/department manager experience – strong leadership acumen.
